dated May 15, 1957: Audience with Pope

Pope Pius XII on May 13 received President Rene Coty of France in audience - the first friendly meeting in Rome between a Pope and a Head of the French State since Pope Leo III crowned Charlemagne the Holy Roman Emperor in the year 800. Pope Pius XII granted the official audience to M. Coty on the 40th anniversary of his consecration as a Bishop.
