Thiruvananthapuram: Security for Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has been tightened in the wake of an anonymous call threatening to kill him. The call was received in the early hours of Monday at the office of the Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode City Police Commissioners. The Chief Minister, who is already in the `Z plus' category, has been provided with an escort and pilot from Monday, police sources said. Visitors to the block housing the Chief Minister's office in the Secretariat are being closely screened and monitored. Top brass of the police reviewed the security arrangements. Director General of Police Raman Srivastava and Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Jacob Punnose held discussions on the security arrangements. Later, Mr. Srivastava called on Mr. Achuthanandan at Cliff House and held discussions. The DGP said the police suspected that a person hailing from Thrissur made the call. Minister for Home and Tourism Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who is in Delhi, has been briefed about the developments. The call had originated from `outside the country' and efforts to trace the caller have not been successful. The police have sought the assistance of the Intelligence Bureau to trace the caller, sources said. They suspect that the call was made in the wake of the eviction of encroachers at Munnar. The Chief Minister, however, attended all the official functions in the capital city as per schedule.
