Shrishti students bag first two ranks in Vellore district

71.2 per cent of the 28,834 students pass out

VELLORE: Students of Shrishti Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Brammapuram near Vellore — P. Vijayakumar (1,175 marks) and M. Yazhmozhi (1,171 marks) — have bagged the first two ranks in the district respectively, while B.K. Venkatesh (1,168 marks), a student of Bharathidasanar Mat. Higher Secondary School, Arakkonam, obtained the third rank in the Plus Two public examinations held in March this year.

According to R. Pitchai, Chief Educational Officer, Vellore, 71.2 per cent of the 28,834 students, who appeared for the examinations, passed out, as against a pass percentage of 58.5 last year. The pass percentage was 85.4 among students of unaided and matriculation schools, 79.4 in Government-aided schools (as against 69.2 last year) and 64.9 in Government schools (47.3 last year).

Education district-wise, unaided and matriculation schools obtained 79.5 per cent passes this year, Government-aided schools 79.2 per cent (67.9 per cent last year) and Government schools 63.3 per cent (44.7 per cent) in Vellore education district, while in the Tirupattur education district, the pass percentage was 92.2 in unaided and matriculation schools, 79.5 (70.5 in 2006) in Government-aided schools and 67.1 in Government schools (51.3 in 2006). The overall pass percentage was 68.1 in the Vellore education district (58.3 last year) and 74.4 in Tirupattur education district (61.2 last year). Among the Government schools in the district, A. Merudhavanan of Government HSS, Vazhapandal (1,139), G. Chakravarthy of GBHSS, Madavalam (1,136) and D. Jagadeesan of GHSS, Ponnai (1,119) got the first three ranks in the district respectively.

P. Vijayakumar of Shrishti Matriculation HSS, who obtained the first rank in the district, said that he wants to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering and become a core branch engineer.

M. Yazhmozhi, who obtained the second rank, wants to become a doctor.

Tiruvannamalai

E. Iniyavan of Jeeva Velu Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mathur, Tiruvannamalai, who obtained 1,173 marks, got the first rank in the district. G. Karthik (1153) of Mount St. Joseph MHSS, Tiruvannamalai obtained the second rank, while K. Mathivadhani (1145) and V. Gopinath (1145) of Mount St. Joseph MHSS, Tiruvannamalai obtained the third.

According to V. Balamurugan, Chief Educational Officer, Tiruvannamalai, R. Bhuvana of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kannamangalam, stood State first in nursing by obtaining 195 out of 200 marks in the subject. Among the students of Government Higher Secondary Schools, K. Swathi (1123) of GGHSS, Cheyyar, obtained the first rank, V. Janani (1119) of GGHSS, Vandavasi, the second and V. Venkatesan (1116) of GBHSS, Kalambur, the third rank.
