Government has failed to check donation menace: ABVP

QUELLING VIOLENCE: An activist being forced out of the premises of a pre-university college in Hubli during a protest by the ABVP on Monday.

HUBLI: As many as 20 people, including ABVP members, were arrested following stone throwing during a demonstration against "donation menace" here on Monday.

The incident took place near Chetana Pre-University College during a protest by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) members who alleged that the college management was charging more than the prescribed fee for admission to PU courses.

ABVP leaders, including its State organising secretary Ravikumar, alleged that the Government had failed to tackle the donation menace. Some Ministers had stakes in institutions fleecing students, they alleged.

There was altercation between the police and the protesters when some of them tried to enter the college premises. One of them slipped through the police barricade and allegedly damaged flowerpots kept at the entrance of the college.

The police removed him from the college premises and tried to disperse the protesters. In themelee, some reportedly threw stones at the college building. The police immediately rounded up the protestors. They were later released on bail.
