Passengers flay Railways

KAKINADA: The Andhra Pradesh Passengers' Association has expressed anguish at the `callousness' of the Railway Ministry in not taking up the construction of the railway line between Kakinada and Pithapuram over a distance of 23 km although it was included in the rail budget in 1999.

At a meeting of the association held here on Sunday, its president S.S. Krishnaji said that Union Minister of State for Defence M.M. Pallamraju, who forced him to abandon the indefinite hunger strike with a promise that the project would be implemented, said the Minister had failed to keep it.

He appealed to the citizens of Kakinada to send telegrams to the Government on the issue.

The meeting also passed resolutions seeking increase in quota of berths on all trains from Kakinada and to introduce inter-city express between Kakinada and Guntur.
