HYDERABAD: Members of the Telangana Municipal Employees' Association on Monday decided not to participate in the ongoing strike in 10 districts of the region. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting. L. Tajmohan Reddy, president of the association, said in a press release that the organisation was expecting GOs soon on recognising civic staff as Government employees, paying salaries through treasury and sanctioning of pension to retired staff -- some of the demands of the striking employees. The meeting adopted a resolution thanking the Government for release of Rs.33 crore to meet the backlog salary expenses of the staff working in various municipalities. The release stated that the strike now was not desirable as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was adopting a positive attitude in solving the employees' problems. Meanwhile, P.J. Chandrasekhar Rao, general secretary, Andhra Pradesh Council of All-India Trade Union Congress, appealed to Municipal Administration Minister K. Ranga Rao to display `just' approach in the discussion he was to have with the leaders of the struggle committee spearheading the strike. He said if the talks failed, the staff involved in the operation of water supply and streetlights would be persuaded to join the strike.
