Cauvery Sene warns against land mafia

Staff Correspondent

`Do not fall into the trap of pseudo-environmentalists'

Madikeri: The Cauvery Sene has cautioned landholders in the district not to fall into the trap of pseudo-environmentalists and end up selling their land to those from outside the district.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, district convener of the sene Ravi Chengappa said that some people who claim to be environmentalists were operating a land mafia. They were coaxing landholders to sell their land, he said.

Replying to a question, Mr. Chengappa said that a Minister from outside the district was keen on purchasing land and plantations in the district. This was the handiwork of pseudo-environmentalists. They were brokering deals to garner huge commissions, he alleged.

If the trend continued, it could lead to untold miseries for people in the district. An awareness campaign had to be launched to fight the menace, Mr. Chengappa said.

Certain institutions imparting training nursing were collecting huge fee from the students, but the facilities being provided by them, including quality of teaching, were poor. The district administration must initiate a probe into their functioning. The sene would launch an agitation if action was not taken against the erring nursing institutions within 15 days, he said.

Mr. Chengappa demanded that the district administration bring to book those involved in the distribution of fake title deeds in Somwarpet taluk.

More than 5,000 fake title deeds had been distributed in Somwarpet and the issue had figured at a recent zilla panchayat meeting.

Office-bearers of the sene, Ratan Kuttaiah, Chandru, were present.
