Import of cement under study: Anbazhagan

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Import of cement through the Government-controlled body, Cements Corporation, is under consideration to tackle the problem of rising prices of the commodity, Finance Minister K. Anbazhagan told the Assembly on Monday.

Responding to the issue raised by Peter Alphonse (Congress) and G.K. Mani (Pattali Makkal Katchi), the Minister said talks would be held with cement manufacturers on the issue of containing the price rise.

He, however, said for all practical purposes, the State Government did not have much role to play in this regard. Mr. Anbazhagan referred to the measures taken by the Union Government to bring down the increase.
