WILL THE MAGIC WORK AGAIN?: Vishnuvardhan, Suhasini and co-stars in a scene from the film. Photo: BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT
BANGALORE: Although he missed the opportunity to screen his ambitious film Mathaad Mathaad Mallige at the Cannes Film Festival's main section, Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar is set to promote it at the festival's marketing division in DVD format. The 60th anniversary of the world famous film festival is to be held from May 16 to May 27 and Mathaad Mathaad Mallige will be the first Kannada film to be screened at the marketing section. Already familiar in the Kannada cinema industry as MMM, the film deals with the impact of globalisation on a remote village which becomes vulnerable to forces such as the mining lobby, politics, violence and the rise of naxalism. Incidentally, the film was shot in the vicinity of Bellary and Ooty. Besides Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini in the lead roles, Home Minister M.P. Prakash has played a major role in the film. Mr. Chandrashekhar is continuing his European season by taking the film as well as his earlier blockbuster Amrithadhaare, in which Amitabh Bachchan played a significant role, to the Madrid film festival to be held from May 28 to June 15. Mr. Chandrashekhar, a former Kannada lecturer, is an acclaimed writer. He turned to cinema as a screenplay and dialogue writer for Suresh Heblikar's Kadina Benki in the early 1980s. He went on to direct and produce many popular films such as Undoo Hoda Kondoo Hoda, Kotreshi Kanasu, and America! America!! and Hoomale. Many of his films brought him the State and national honours. Mathaad Mathaad Mallige is scheduled for release on August 10.
