Armed gang attacks couple; takes away cash, jewellery

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Armed dacoits attacked a driver and his wife with swords and looted Rs. 46,000 in cash, gold ornaments and electronic goods from their house in Peenya police station limits on Sunday night.

The police said that around 10.30 p.m. Sreenivasa, owner and driver of a goods vehicle, and his wife, Sushmitha, came to their house in BTS Layout in Sidedanhalli.

A few minutes later when the couple were feeding their pet dog, some men turned up and picked a quarrel with Sreenivasa, hitting him on the head with a sword. Later, they dragged Sushmitha out of the compound and hit her too.

The attackers then barged into the house and made away with the cash and gold from a wardrobe. They latched the door from outside before fleeing.

Sreenivasa said there were eight men in the gang, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Syed Ulfath Hussain said. The Peenya police have registered a case of dacoity.

Murdered

Following gang rivalry, armed men hacked to death Sreenivasa (35), a driver, in Sarjapur police station limits on the outskirts of the city on Monday.

The police said that after attending a late-night party at Bellandur, Sreenivasa was going home on Hosa Road, off Hosur Road.

Around 7.30 a.m. when he was driving in his multi-utility vehicle, someone stopped the vehicle near Muthanallur Cross.

As he got down, around 10 people attacked him with choppers and swords, killing him on the spot.

The assailants reportedly escaped in another multi-utility vehicle. Sreenivasa's friend, who was with him in the vehicle, lodged a complaint with the Sarjapur police.

According to the police, Sreenivasa's younger brother Chandra is in jail in connection with the recent murder of Sidde Gowda in Madivala police station limits. The police suspect that Sidde Gowda's men might have murdered Sreenivasa in retaliation.

Pedestrians killed

Two pedestrians were killed in separate road accidents on Hosur Road on Monday morning.

Ranganath (50), a construction worker and a resident of Konena Agrahara, was killed after a lorry knocked him down near the Electronics City Gate around 7.15 a.m., the police said.

Ashwathanarayna Reddy of Singasandra was killed in a hit-and-run case reported from near Koodlu Gate around 4 a.m. The Madivala traffic police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the vehicle.

Recovered

The Cottonpet police have arrested H. Prasad Sharma (45) of Bilwara district of Rajasthan on charges of theft and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs. 8 lakh from him.

Over the years, Sharma, who was working as a salesman at a jewellery shop in Marutisevanagar in Banaswadi, had stolen the jewellery from the shop.

He was arrested while he was trying to sell some of the ornaments to a jewellery shop in Cottonpet, the police said.
