TUMKUR: Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Tuesday demanded action against "erring" private unaided pre-university colleges in Tumkur city. The ABVP wanted the Government to immediately open a special public grievances cell here to hear complaints from students and their parents against the private managements that were found to be "violating" government guidelines on admission process. The ABVP demanded that the Government should constitute a special official squad to inspect the admission procedures followed by different colleges in Tumkur. The ABVP staged an agitation at the Pre-University Directorate's Tumkur district office here. Byatarange Gowda, ABVP's national committee leader, who led the agitation, invited the Deputy Director (Pre-University Education) to join the ABVP delegation to visit certain colleges. The ABVP activists gheraoed the official when the latter turned down Mr. Gowda's suggestion. Mr. Gowda said the Tumkur district office of the PU Directorate was not equipped to detect violations committed by some PU colleges in the admission process. As the private managements of these colleges were influential, the junior level official posted here was unable to tackle the issue.
