The Football Friend Free Coaching Centre (FFFCC) completed 29 years on May 14. On May 18, it will complete 10,500 days of training budding footballers. Since the centre was set up on May 14, 1978, select school students have been offered free football coaching. At present, there are 70 boys in the junior and senior categories undergoing coaching. The FFFCC may still be the modest institution it was at the time of its inception, but it has trained 5,500 boys in football over the past 29 years without levying any fee. Despite huge financial liabilities, the centre still survives, courtesy contributions from individuals. Its founders, N.T. Karunakaran and K. Kunhiraman, are looking forward to Government support. The FFFCC that started with just 36 boys has been praised by none other than FIFA officials. It has contributed eight football players to the national team and 25 to the State team.
