BHUBANESWAR: In an apt attempt to rejuvenate and propagate the dying performing arts traditions of Orissa among the urban people, the department of culture and Bhubaneswar Music Circle (BMC) have come together to host monthly programmes with such artistes in the capital commencing this month. BMC general secretary Khirod Pattnaik informed that the organisation has signed an MoU with the State Government recently to stage cultural events at Rabindra Mandap on the third Sunday of every month. "The government has emphasised on presenting performers of marginalised music and dance forms and accordingly we have devised the programmes in such a manner that there would be a good audience for such arts traditions at the auditorium," Mr. Pattnaik explained.
Programmes
The programme on May 20 at Rabindra Mandap will showcase `Ektara bhajan' singer Jhari Mohan Nath, and will be followed by a santoor recital by Kolkata-based instrumentalist Pinak Bhattacharya who has been trained under stalwarts like Pandit Jugal Kishore Sarkar and Pandit Rathin Sarkar, it was learnt. Speaking on the MoU, culture secretary G.N.Mohanty said as part of the State Government's agenda to promote public-private-partnership in all sectors, the department of culture has signed MoU with BMC and another city-based cultural outfit `Pragati' recently to host monthly cultural events in the city regularly.
