Fiji to extend emergency

WELLINGTON: Fiji's interim Government is to extend Public Safety Regulations, which means continuation of state of emergency after the coup last year. According to a Government news release on Tuesday, the Home Affairs Ministry said, ``The decree was put in place in the best interest of national security and stability. It is for the protection of all citizens of Fiji and their properties but not for specific individuals and organisations with vested and narrow interests''. There are reports the E.U. might scrutinise the statement issued by Fiji. — Xinhua
