`Ground-breaking' ceremony of Infosys on Saturday

Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The `ground-breaking' ceremony of the first campus of Infosys Technologies Ltd. in the State will be performed on the new premises of the Technopark here on Saturday.

Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate the function, sources in the Technopark said on Tuesday. Infosys already runs a unit from the `Bhavani' building complex on the existing Technopark campus.

The new facility will be housed in 50 acres of land. The launch would also mark the take-off of the second phase of the Government-run Technopark, the sources told The Hindu here. The total area acquired for the second phase is 86 acres.

US Technologies, which has been allocated 36 acres, will be the only other group to have a unit here. The company is yet to finalise its launch schedule on the new premises. The Union Government has already sanctioned the declaration of the second phase of the Technopark as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
