Prohibitory orders in Sriganganagar
Special Correspondent
JAIPUR:
Prohibitory orders were clamped in the Sriganganagar town of northern Rajasthan on Tuesday following a clash in front of the District Collectorate between followers of the Dera Sacha Sauda sect and activists of Sikh organisations.
About two dozen persons, including policemen, were injured in the clash that took place when Sikh activists staged a demonstration and tried to burn an effigy of the Dera chief, Baba Gurmit Ram Rahim. Police resorted to lathicharge, and fired teargas shells to disperse the mob.
Police said prohibitory orders had been imposed in the areas adjoining the Collectorate, even as senior officers met with both sides till late evening to evolve a compromise and ensure peace.
