PANAJI: The issue of large-scale irregular land deals involving foreigners has once again come into focus as the campaign for the Goa Assembly elections builds up. Referring to concern over mafia from Russia and Israel utilising real estate in Goa an posing a threat to national security, in the latest report of the National Security Council (NSC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Manohar Parrikar, wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday demanding a thorough probe into all such suspected huge land deals in Goa involving foreigners. He said several Goan politicians and VIPs have been allegedly associated with such deals. The former Chief Minister, who is projected as BJP's Chief Ministerial candidate in the Assembly elections, told presspersons on Tuesday that he did not want this probe for political reasons but in the larger interest of the security of the country.
