Hat-trick by David

Kayalpatnam: A hat-trick by striker David helped Chennai Soccer Club defeat Southern Blues Football Club, Bangalore, 3-1 and enter the semifinals of the 42nd Maulana Abulkalam Azad memorial trophy football tournament at United Sports Club ground here on Tuesday.

Chandrasekar reduced the margin.

SJSC posts win

Trailing 0-11 at the start, at the end of the first quarter 20-27 and 43-44 at half time, host Silver Jubilee Sports Club rallied to defeat Wings Basketball Club, Dindigul, 102-78 in the inaugural match of the 48th annual P.D. Chidambara Sourya Narayanan memorial trophy basketball tournament at Periakulam on Tuesday. Manickam top scored with 40 points for Silver Jubilee Club, while A. Chandran scored 23 points for Wings Club.

The results: Silver Jubilee SC 102 (Manickam 40, Arumugaraja 20, Mujibur 15) bt Wings BC 78 (A. Chandran 23, N. Vadivelu 22, M. Karthik 17).

Hockey tournament

Sixteen teams will participate in the second annual KN Subbaraj memorial trophy hockey tournament, which will get under way at on May 17.

Karthikeyan takes title

P. Karthikeyan of Chennai (7.5 points) and R. Preethi of Madurai (6.5 points) won the boys' and girls' titles respectively at the end of the ninth and final round of the 18th State under-17 chess championship, organised by the Karur DCA in Karur on Tuesday.
