NEW DELHI: Light-flyweight Mandakini Chanu settled for the silver medal at the Ahmet Comert Cup international boxing championship in Istanbul, Turkey. Up against European silver medallist, Monica Csik of Hungary, the Indian boxer managed just eight points while her opponent collected 14 to emerge the winner. Mandakini had beaten European bronze medallist Jenny Hardingz of Sweden in the semifinals of the women's 48kg category. The Indian team returned from the Turkish capital with a haul of one silver, and four bronze medals. Aswathy Mol (70kg) and Renu (75kg) and in the men's section, Sanjay Kolte (48kg) and Diwakar Prasad (57kg) were the medal winners. Considering that the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) had sent a second-string team to Turkey, this was a commendable performance, said the coach of the women's team, Mahavir Singh.
