Civic staff stir hits sanitation

ANANTAPUR: The strike by municipal workers and employees in the district hit civic services for the second day on Tuesday with only a small section of them attending to their duties. Of the six municipalities and one corporation, employees and workers in all the civic bodies are on strike except those in Tadipatri municipality.

Only the employees of engineering section, engaged in supply of drinking water, are turning up for their duties in all the civic bodies, including the Anantapur Municipal Corporation. Sanitation has been badly at all these places. Contract employees and workers also joined the strike on Monday with their list of 13 demands.

The protesters took out a procession raising slogans in support of their demands. CITU, AITUC and AP NGOs' Association are supporting the strike. They also staged a rasta-roko in Sapthagiri Circle.
