BHOPAL: Twenty-four candidates filed their papers for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly by-election from Shivpuri on Tuesday, the last day for nominations. In all, 30 candidates have filed their papers. Prominent among those who filed their papers on the last day were Ganesh Gautam of the ruling BJP and Virendra Singh Raghuvanshi of the Congress. Nominations have also been filed for the by-election by Anurag Asthana, Devendra Jain, Om Prakash, Rajendra Nigam, Giriraj Koli, Vishnu Prasad Namdev (all BJP), Yashwant Singh, Ms Kavita Kotia, Rakesh, Govind Singh, and Hazarilal Kotia (Samajwadi Party), Rakesh Kumar (Indian National Congress), Ramji Lal (Rashtriya Samanta Dal), Narendra Birthare and Ms. Vimlesh (Bhartiya Janshakti) and Kailash Singh (RJD). Twelve candidates have filed their papers as Independent candidates. They are Raghuvar, Brajesh Sharma, Jandel Singh, Dhani Ram, Surendra Kumar, Sant Kumar Sharma, Mahesh Sharma, Baudddin, Ajit Singh, Jadna, Azad Khan and Aslam Khan. Scrutiny of papers would be on Wednesday. The last date for withdrawal is May 18. Polling Will be on June 2 and counting of votes on June 5.
