Rules to be amended for MLCs

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Rules Committee of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly has decided to amend rules to facilitate inclusion of the newly-elected Members of Legislative Council into various legislative committees.

The meeting chaired by Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy on Tuesday felt the Council members should be accommodated in the different committees. The next meeting will be held towards the end of the week to get a clear picture of how many Council members can be brought into the committees.

Mr. Suresh Reddy said that there were 18 committees in which more than 30 Council members would find a place. Some would be joint committees, while at least three panels would be separate comprising only the Council members, he said. The Council would have separate Privileges, Papers to be laid and Assurances committees.

He said the next meeting would finalise the rules that needed to be amended.

Legislative Council Chairman A. Chakrapani, Minister K. Rosaiah, Law Minister R. Chenga Reddy and Chief Whip N. Kiran Kumar Reddy attended the meeting.
