KOTHAGUDEM: With people staying indoors to avoid exposure to the oppressive heat wave conditions, public places in the coal town wore a desolate look. Shops and business establishments downed their shutters. There is a drop in the attendance in the coalmines as well. It is the warmest week of the year for the town. It recorded the highest temperature of 50 degree Celsius on Tuesday, according to the readings taken from unofficial agencies. The heat wave conditions affected coal production in opencast mines of Singareni Collieries in Kothagudem area. Singareni Collieries Chief General Manager (Personnel) Gangi Reddy said there was a drop of 2 to 3 per cent in the attendance in the opencast mines on account of the heat wave.
