HYDERABAD: The results of EAMCET-2007 will be released on Thursday at 11.45 a.m. at JNTU Academic Staff College, Kukatpally. The final key will also be released along with the results, according to JNTU Vice-Chancellor and EAMCET-2007 Chairman K. Rajagopal. - Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Fifth All-India `Telugu Mahasabhalu' will be held in Chennai from June 1 to 3. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will inaugurate the meet to be attended by Telugus from all over India, particularly from the South. Chennai had hosted the meet in 1984 too. - Special Correspondent

Bus driver falls

to death

Kakinada: A tourist bus driver of Patamata in Vijayawada Pinnamaneni Narasimha Rao (38) was killed when he fell down from the bus top while asleep in Annavaram on Monday during night halt. The Annavaram police have registered the case. - Correspondent

AITUC seeks

wage arrears

HYDERABAD: The State Council of AITUC has demanded payment of wage arrears and ensure job protection to the staff of `Mata Sisu Rakshak' project of the Family Welfare Department. It said about 100 persons were working in each district. - Special Correspondent

Bid to occupy land foiled

KHAMMAM: CPI( M) workers, as part of their State-wide agitation for house sites, made a vain attempt to occupy some 20 acres of land near the Diet College in the town on Tuesday. Led by district committee leaders Nunna Nageswara Rao and Buggaveeti Sarala, they embarked on marking places for construction of houses. The police and revenue officials reached the spot and removed the encroachments. Later, they courted arrest in large numbers. - Staff Reporter

Rythu Coolie Sangham's charge

Kakinada: Rythu Coolie Sangham district committee member Gubbala Adinarayanamurthy has alleged that the authorities have cancelled house site pattas given to the poor at Vedurpaka of Rayavaram mandal and reassigned the same to ineligible persons. About 100 workers of Rythu Coolie Sangham were arrested when they resisted the government's action. He demanded immediate release of the arrested workers and also restoration of lands to the original beneficiaries. -Correspondent

Collector's directive to irrigation staff

Srikakulam: Collector V.N. Vishnu on Tuesday instructed officials of the Irrigation Department to complete all repair works to the Left Main Canal of the Vamsadhara project and tanks before the commencement of kharif season.

At a meeting of irrigation officials in the ZP conference hall here, he wanted early completion of works of strengthening tank bunds. - Special Correspondent

Two farmers end life

ANANTAPUR: A farmer of Kotha Palyam village in the district, Ranga Damappa (35), allegedly committed suicide by consuming a pesticide in his house on Tuesday. Mounting debts reportedly forced him to take the step. In Kurnool, a farmer, B. Nagesh (50), ended life by consuming pesticide at Gorantla in Kodumur mandal. — Staff Reporter

Ryot electrocuted

Anantapur: A farmer, P. Rajasekhar (33), of Pulakuntlapalli in Nallacheruvu mandal was electrocuted on Tuesday. He went to his fields in the night to water crops. — Staff Reporter

Red sanders seized

KADAPA: Forest officials seized 200 red sander logs valued at Rs. 3 lakhs from a forest area near Guvvalacheruvu in Ramapuram mandal on Tuesday, according to in charge FRO of Rayachoti Jayagopal. In another incident, Mydukur police seized 57 red sander logs, including 49 stacked in the toilet of a school, in Thuvvapalle village in Mydukur mandal on Monday. Eight more red sander logs were seized from atop a thatched house.— Staff Reporter

One killed in accident

KURNOOL: One person was killed and 18 were injured when a tractor overturned at Gorumanukonda near Bethamcharla here on Tuesday. The victim was identified as V. Nagaraju. — Special Correspondent
