KOLLAM: A five-day National workshop on nanoscience and nanotechnology began at the Amrita School of Engineering (ASE), Amritapuri, near here, on Monday. The workshop, organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department of the ASE, was inaugurated by V. Radhakrishnan, chairman, undergraduate programme committee, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. Deputy Director, the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, Jurez Vasi delivered a special address at the inaugural function. The aim of the workshop is to provide the participants with an overview of the progress in nanoscience and nanotechnology and inspire them to pursue research. The workshop gives practical demonstrations using hi-tech equipments such as atomic force microscope and scanning tunnelling microscope. The workshop is being sponsored by the All India Council of Technical Education. Dean, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, K.B.M. Namboodiripad presided over the inaugural function. Principal of the ASE K. Shankaran welcomed the gathering.
