ISKCON, Akshaya Patra Foundation on the warpath

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) and Akshaya Patra Foundation are on the warpath here with allegations of misuse of funds, diverting donation money to real estate and overcharging for meals under the midday meal scheme being levelled against the latter.

Akshaya Patra Foundation -- operating the Rajasthan Government's midday meal programme in Jaipur -- on Monday took strong exception to the charges made against it by the ISKCON functionaries at a press conference here .

It said ISKCON was trying to disseminate misinformation in Jaipur after indulging in a similar "malicious campaign'' against it in Bangalore.

ISKCON legal team member Varada Krishna Das and Jaipur branch president Pancharatna Das claimed on Sunday that ISKCON had nothing to do with "profiteering and fraudulent activities'' by its breakaway Bangalore branch, which has established Akshaya Patra Foundation managed by former branch president Madhu Pandit Das.
