New Delhi: A. Raja has been appointed the new Communications and Information Technology Minister in the Union Cabinet. According to a Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué issued on Tuesday, the President has made the appointment on the advice of the Prime Minister.
Resignation accepted
The President has also accepted, as advised by the Prime Minister, the resignation of Dayanidhi Maran from the Union Council of Ministers. Mr. Maran held the charge of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. As per the coalition protocol, his portfolio now goes to a fellow-DMK nominee, Mr. Raja. Consequent to Mr. Raja moving from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, another DMK nominee, S. Regupathy, who was Minister of State for Home, has taken Mr. Raja's place, though only as Minister of State. For now, the Prime Minister will look after Environment and Forests. It is presumed that the DMK leadership will soon name a Cabinet-rank replacement for Mr. Raja in the Environment Ministry. New Minister Our Chennai Special Correspondent reports: V. Radhika Selvi, Thiruchendur MP, will be sworn in Union Minister of State on May 18, according to a press release. Her portfolio will be decided later.
