CHENNAI : The Anna Nagar police district has been in the news for wrong reasons recently, with a slew of incidents, ranging from suicide to a gruesome murder, coming as a jolt to the residents. The latest incident has also been the most shocking for the neighbourhood: the murder for gain of a woman living in an apartment on the busy 12th main road. Two young men entered her apartment and killed her before fleeing with a few valuables. Though police are investigating various angles for the last three days, it is now strongly suspected that the security personnel at the apartment complex may have some knowledge about the killers. Whether the assailants were known to the victim or not is also being examined. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Anna Nagar) Jaya Gowri said police had some clues and hoped to solve the case soon.
Another murder
In adjoining Aminjikarai, a "pani puri" seller Rambabu (42) from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead in his residence at Karsa Garden. Whether it was a murder for gain or precipitated by previous enmity is being investigated, police said. An officer said that no substantive progress had been made in the case. On Monday, a couple aged about 60 and 55 were found dead in their house in Aminjikarai police station limits. Police broke open the door and found the couple dead; it is being investigated whether ill health or some other reason led to the suicide.Residents point to several major unsolved crimes in Rajamangalam police station limits, where house break-ins have been reported in the last three months. The police station was also in the news when a group of policemen in Rajamangalam police station revolted against one of their superior officers. The sudden spurt of untoward incidents has prompted Anna Nagar residents to call for more proactive policing of the neighbourhood as well as resolving the pending cases without delay.
