Hyderabad: Minister for Minorities Welfare Mohd. Ali Shabbir has urged students not to be obsessed with only engineering and medical streams. They should consider exploring other courses, which will fetch equally good jobs. He was speaking after inaugurating the Ed-CET 2007 free coaching programme for minority students at Nizam College here on Tuesday. As many as 950 candidates, mostly girls, had enrolled for the coaching which was being imparted by the Centre for Educational Development of Minorities (CEDM) in 10 centres in the State. Mr. Shabbir asked CEDM Director S.A. Shukoor to set up a career guidance cell to help the students choose the right career. If necessary the Government would sanction separate budget for it. He reiterated the Government's commitment to providing reservations to Muslims in jobs and educational institutions by July-August. Efforts were on to tide over the technical problems. However, he said, reservation was not the solution. Muslims should work hard and emerge stronger educationally. The very first verse of the Quran, which was revealed to the Prophet, pertained to education and it only showed the importance Islam attached to education. Mr. Shabbir wondered as to how Muslims could lag behind educationally. Mr. Shabbir congratulated Nizam College Principal S. Satyanaryana when informed that all-India civil services topper Muthyalaraju Revu had appeared for the examination at the Nizam College. The CEDM now proposed to provide coaching for the mains.
