HYDERABAD: The Transport Department has generated a revenue of over Rs. 1.5 lakh in a special drive conducted to check excess carriage of passengers and overloading of goods in auto-rickshaws, maxi cabs and vans in the city from Monday to Friday.

Over 200 cases of violating road safety rules, non-possession of documents, including fitness certificates and tax clearance receipts were booked.

The drive saw 65 vehicles seized, a majority of them autorickshaws and maxi-cabs. The department is expected to realise another Rs.50,000.

Special teams

Four special teams from Secunderabad, Malakpet, Mehdipatnam and Bahadurpura Regional Transport Offices led by Joint Transport Commissioner B. Venkateswarlu were involved in the drive under the aegis of the City Traffic police.

Awareness campaign

"The idea is to create awareness among motorists and commuters to follow road safety measures and thereby curb road accidents," said Mr. Venkateswarlu.
