KOCHI: The Pollution Control Board submitted a report to Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish on Tuesday that there was no conclusive proof to indict the Fertilizers And Chemicals Travancore (FACT) as the source of Thursday's ammonia leak near Irumpanam. Hundreds of people from Irumbanam and nearby areas were relocated to relief camps on Thursday night following the leak of ammonia from an unknown source. "Though the report says that though only the Kochi Division of FACT stores ammonia in the area, there is little proof to show that the leak occurred from its unit. Therefore, I have sought a more comprehensive report from the Factories and Boilers Department," Mr. Hanish said. He added that the PCB suggested a few precautions that had to be taken in case of chemical accidents. The 10-page report had some technical details about ammonia storage and transportation. The FACT stated that its ammonia plant was not in operation on the day, since annual maintenance was on. A more comprehensive report on the incident was likely to be forwarded to experts at IIT, Chennai, and Cusat.
