Man shot dead; father arrested

NEW DELHI: A 62-year-old man allegedly shot his middle-aged son at his Mehrauli residence in South Delhi on Monday. The accused has been arrested.

According to the police, the incident took place around 11-30 p.m. when Joseph Titus allegedly shot his son, Frank, from his licensed single-barrel gun. Frank died on the spot.

Joseph, a retired executive from the Ministry of External Affairs, told the police that Frank, who was unemployed, used to abuse him.

Six auto-lifters arrested

NEW DELHI: Six alleged auto-lifters have been arrested in different parts of South Delhi. The police claim to have recovered five stolen motorcycles and 20 auto-rickshaws from their possession.

Two of the accused, Mahipal and Jageer Singh, were arrested at Badarpur here this past weekend. The police recovered a country-made firearm from their possession. During interrogation, they purportedly disclosed that they were members of the Pappu gang from Bharatpur in Rajasthan. At their instance, five stolen motorcycles were also recovered.

In another case, the police arrested Ravi Bhatia, Mohammad Shakeel, Narender Solanki and Brij Mohan Gupta on charges of stealing auto-rickshaws.

According to the police, investigations revealed that Ravi disposed of stolen vehicles using forged papers. While 20 such auto-rickshaws have been recovered so far, the police claim to have identified 20 more auto-rickshaws stolen by the gang.

Bail plea put off

NEW DELHI: Hearing of a bail petition by Sunder Lal Yadav, co-accused in the human trafficking case allegedly involving Member of Parliament Babubhai Katara, has been put off by a Delhi court till May 24.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau deferred the bail plea of Sunder Lal after the Delhi police submitted that questioning of four other MPs, whose names had come up in the investigation, and also interrogation of Rasheed who had surrendered in Hyderabad was yet to be completed.
