KOCHI: Indian Naval Ship Mahe was decommissioned on Tuesday at the Naval Base, Kochi, after 24 years of service. The ceremony was held in the presence of Vice-Admiral Jagjit Singh Bedi, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command. Lt. Cdr. Boyiri Varma, last commanding officer of INS Mahe, delivered the pre-decommissioning speech. With sunset, the Colour Guard presented arms as the national flag and the naval ensign were hauled down. The ensign was handed over to the commanding officer. With the sounding of the Last Post, the paying off pennant (decommissioning pennant) was also hauled down, bringing to an end INS Mahe's naval service. Many officers and sailors who served onboard this ship witnessed the decommissioning ceremony. The ship, 26 metres long with a tonnage of 100 tonnes, was primarily used for inshore minesweeping, harbour defence and coastal patrolling.
