NEW DELHI: A survey has shown that sectors like the construction industry, shipping, banks, government hospitals, star trading houses, electronics and print media, courier companies, small scale industries, retail and card franchise companies were fast developing into high stress zone working areas. These sectors had emerged among the top ten segments in which the menace of stress and mental fatigue had intensified during the recent times, according to a survey carried out by Associated Chambers of Commence and Industry of India (Assocham). In an analysis on ``Level of Stress in Workplace'' conducted by the chamber, it has been revealed that top executives such as civil engineers, architects, contractors, engineer officers, masters in various departments, branch and marketing managers, doctors, production managers, quality controllers, editors, reporters, copy writers, operations and marketing managers and sales and marketing managers brave stress and carry home its adverse impact.
Not only in IT sector
According to Assocham General Secretary D. S. Rawat, generally, the impression is that workforce in BPO, call centres and the IT sector are only facing the maximum stress compared to other sectors. The scenario has now changed and other sectors are also under the grip of stress. Construction companies and developers who undertake various projects in areas like construction, infrastructure, roads and highways, have to execute their work in a scheduled period in view of the cost and time factor. Ship operators continuously work from four to six months in the ship and in turn it puts immense pressure on the chief engineer officers, second engineer officer, masters in various departments and supporting staff in the crew. In the banking sector players (both public and private) it has been found that these all activities are making an impact on the mental health of various category of staff. However, in government hospitals, owing to large inflow of general and emergency patients the doctors check over 200 patients in a day. Nurses who run from one ward to another and supporting staff are also caught under stress. In the electronic and print media, which has emerged as an attractive destination for the mass communication graduates, employees of various TV channels and leading newspapers employees such as reporters, copy writers, desk editors, photographers and cameramen work for long hours during the day. They do not have proper sleep in a day and are caught under insomnia stress.
