Signs of a barbarian society: Azhikode

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: Critic Sukumar Azhikode has said the encroachments in Munnar are signs of a barbarian society.

Inaugurating the 23rd State conference of the Kerala State Electricity Board Pensioners' Association here on Wednesday, Prof. Azhikode said it was the collective responsibility of every Keralite to oppose such activities. He alleged that local leaders of all political parties had `undeniable' roles in the encroachments.

Appreciating Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan's stern stance on the eviction drive, he said the Chief Minister had not gone to the U.S. for lessons on public management. It was his long years of `honest public service' that made Mr. Achuthanandan a popular man among the public.

Association president M.K. Parameswaran Nair and other dignitaries spoke on the occasion.
