Face-to-face interaction between master trainers and writers from June 4 Orientation of teachers using EDUSAT technology from July 9
NEW DELHI: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will launch its orientation programme for teachers on the newly restructured textbooks for Classes II, IV, VII, X and XII beginning June 4. The programme has two components: a face-to-face interaction between master trainers and writers of different NCERT textbooks that begins on June 4, and orientation of teachers through tele-conferencing using EDUSAT technology from July 9. The master trainers will in turn act as coordinators during the orientation programme for teachers of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti and schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Examination to be held at 32 different learning centres across the country. During the teleconferencing, the chief advisers and writers of different textbooks will sit in the studio on the NCERT campus here in the Capital and have a direct interaction with a number of teachers from different areas. "There will be a separate schedule for teachers at senior secondary, secondary and primary levels. The teleconferencing programme will be divided into three sessions. In the first session, there will be a presentation on National Curriculum Framework and its focus areas, while in the second there will be a discussion on the new textbooks and how different they are from the old ones. The third will deal with the evaluation part," said Madhulika S. Patel, Reader in the Department of Teacher Education and Extension at NCERT. "After every session there will be a one-hour interaction between teachers and resource persons, where the former will put up queries, make their observations and give suggestions on improving the new textbooks," she said. NCERT used EDUSAT-enabled tele-conferencing programme with teachers after the first phase of restructuring of its textbooks past year. The orientation programme held at 25 learning centres set up with the help of the Indian Space Research Organisation covered about 12,000 teachers from Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Bihar, Gujarat and Orissa.
