`Details of works taken up not furnished'

Lokayukta Superintendent of Police visits offices

HASSAN: Lokayukta Superintendent of Police P. Ramaiah, who visited Chennarayapatna taluk on Tuesday, was in for many surprises. Speaking to The Hindu, he said that an official of the Watershed Development Office, Mallappa, had no details of works taken up in Shravanabelagola. He said the relevant records are in Hassan, Mr. Ramaiah said.

Kits were sanctioned to 13 carpenters, 10 building construction workers, six barbers but there were no details about the persons they were distributed to. Mr. Mallappa reportedly told the Lokayukta official that the kits were distributed through the Assistant Director of the department. However, records were not available. Even under the food-for-work scheme, rice was not distributed. Mr. Ramaiah said he seized the records concerned. Mr. Mallappa agreed to take the Lokayukta official for inspection of works and fixed a time but did not turn up, Mr. Ramaiah said.

At the Sub-Treasury office, the Sub Treasury Officer B.R. Machamma said attributed the delay in the dispatch of old age pension, widow pension and other pension to the postal department. She volunteered to say that the computer in the office is not functioning since 10 days. The post office had not been furnished with the list of dead beneficiaries.
