Srinath upsets Sawadi

BANGALORE: Rohit Srinath used his strong forehand to good effect to snuff out the fourth seed Vishwanath Sawadi 6-2, 6-1 in an all-Karnataka quarterfinal clash in the boys' under-16 singles of the Laabh Jewellers AITA Champion Series junior tennis tournament here on Wednesday.

Joining Rohit in the last four were the top-seed Reshien Samuel, Sharan Patil, both from Karnataka, and R. Vigneswaran of Tamil Nadu.

The results (all from Karnataka unless specified):

Boys: Singles: Quarterfinals: Reshien Samuel bt V. Senthil Kumar (TN) 6-2, 6-4; Rohit Srinath bt Vishwanath Swadi 6-2, 6-1; R. Vigneswaran (TN) bt Vinod Gowda 6-4, 3-6, 7-5; Sharan Patil bt Surjit Singh 6-1, 6-1.

Doubles: Semifinals: Sharan Patil & Rashien Samuel bt Gagan Singh & Pyara Singh 6-3, 6-3; R. Vigneswaran & Vinod Gowda bt Vishwanath Sawadi & Rishi Dabrai 6-3, 6-3.

Girls: Singles: Quarterfinals: C. Rajeswari (AP) bt Soumya (AP) 6-0, 6-0; Ravina Shetty bt Preethi Ujjani 6-2, 6-0; A.K. Padmapriya bt U.M. Shalaka 6-1, 6-3; Sanjana M. Kumar bt M.P. Nitha 6-2, 6-0.
