Bangalore:
The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation Employees' Union has warned the State Government against privatising KSTDC.
Union secretary Gundayya told presspersons here on Wednesday that of the KSTDC's 32 hotels in famous tourists spots, 12 had been transferred to private organisations. Some of these transferred hotels were profitable enterprises and now the money was going to the private sector.
In Bangalore, the corporation had 50 new Volvo buses, but there was no parking place for them in the heart of the city.
They were being parked in an open yard at Peenya. Moreover, the fuel for these buses had to be bought from a particular gas station at Peenya, which was a good two hours away from their main pick-up point.
P.G. Dharmendra, union member, said, "Tourism is a public service; it shouldn't matter if it brings in profit or not."
