THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government has not offered any concessions to Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority (TECOM) to take up the Smart City Project in Kochi, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said. Talking to press persons here after a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said 98.4 hectares of land given for the project was on lease and the rent was Rs.104 crore. It was not a sale and hence Rs.104 crore was not the value of the land, he said in reply to criticisms raised by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy. Mr. Achuthanandan recalled that the UDF had proposed to sell 54.4 hectares of land for Rs. 36 crore to the company besides offering 40 hectares of land for free. He said the 33,000 direct jobs offered by TECOM during the UDF rule and the 90,000 jobs offered now were not the same as argued by the Opposition Leader. He said a copy of the draft agreement was forwarded to the Opposition Leader immediately after the approval of the same by the Cabinet. Mr. Chandy had raised no criticism until the agreement was signed, he said.
