"Only 25 passports legible"

Ghaziabad: A day after the recovery of hundreds of passports from near a canal in this district, police on Wednesday said only a few of them were legible while the rest did not have any pages. The police yesterday exhumed about 1,000 passports which were buried under the earth near Ganga canal in Massoorie in the district.

"Only 25 passports could be read. The rest did not have any pages and were mere covers with the official Ashoka emblem," Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Ratan told PTI. These passports belong to Ghaziabad, Noida, Meerut, Bulandshahr and Agra, he said. He did not rule out the involvement of the staff of the passport office or VIPs . He also refused to disclose the names and other contents of 25 passports which could be deciphered. PTI
