Robbers strike during the day

Madikeri: The house of a retired Revenue official at Jayanagar here was burgled on Wednesday.

Gold ornaments and cash to the tune of Rs. 1.50 lakh have been stolen, according to a complaint lodged by Meenaskhi, wife of Keshava, owner of the house. She works at the Deputy Commissioner's office here. Mr. Keshava was not in the house when the robbers struck.

Meenakshi's mother Parvathy (85), who was alone in the house, was hit on the face and kept locked in a bedroom, the police said. The incident occurred between 10.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The elderly woman alerted construction workers nearby after she regained consciousness. Following this, the police were called.

The police suspect that robbers must have escaped via Chain Gate area.
