Train re-scheduled

HYDERABAD: The New Delhi-Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh Express scheduled to arrive here at 7.50 p.m. on Wednesday is running late by 10 hours due to derailment on the West Central Railway. It is expected to reach Hyderabad around 5 a.m. on Thursday, a press release issued by the South Central Railway said.

Consequently, the Hyderabad-New Delhi AP Express slated to leave here at 6.25 a.m. on May 17 has been re-scheduled to depart at 1.30 p.m.

Producer dead

HYDERABAD: One of the senior-most Telugu film producers Pinjala Subba Rao (80) who made successful films like `Seethakalyanam', `Triloka Sundari', `Pedarasi Peddamma Katha', died on Tuesday in a private hospital in Chennai. He is survived by four sons and two daughters.

`Hantakulostunnaru Jagratha' was the first film made by Rao. He went on to make 25 Telugu and Hindi films. His notable films were `Vikramarka Vijayam', `Suvarnasundari Katha', `Seetharama Vanavasam', `Adavi Manushulu', `Maya Maschindra'. - Special Correspondent

134 houses destroyed

KHAMMAM: Over 130 houses were destroyed in three major fire accidents reported in Khammam district on Wednesday. The loss of property was estimated to be over Rs. 2 crore. A majority of the families rendered homeless were tribals. The accidents were reported from Pata Irusulapuram village of Bayyaram mandal, at Panduvariguidem village near Aswaraopet and in Seripuram village of Garla mandal. - Staff Reporter

I-T attachment notices served

ADILABAD: In a bid to realise Rs. 1.78 crores as Income Tax dues from the Agriculture Market Committee in Adilabad, the Income Tax Department has sent attachment notices to the District Treasury Office. The notices, which were sent in the last week of April to the State Bank of India, State Bank of Hyderabad, Union Bank of India and Andhra Bank urged the respective authorities' cooperation in recovery of the due, according to sources. The income of the Market Committees in the State is being taxed as per the provisions of the Income Tax Act. Committees on the other hand contend that the income does not attract provisions of the Act. — Staff Reporter

Two bodies found

NALGONDA: Two female bodies with head injuries were found on the outskirt of Tungaturthy under the Peddavura police station limits on Wednesday.

The bodies were found in the fields, Miryalaguda DSP B. Narasimhulu told reporters. While the age of the elder woman is about 20 years, the girl's age is about 10 years, he said. Strangulation marks were found on the bodies that were reportedly bludgeoned by boulders. "Someone dumped the bodies here after killing them somewhere else," the DSP said. — Staff Reporter

Rajahmundry: The Government Arts College (autonomous) will impart training to degree final year students of 2007-08 in soft skills, communication skills, computer knowledge, reasoning and aptitude.

ID liquor seized, four women held

KADAPA: Prohibition and Excise officials arrested four women and seized 35 litres of illicitly distilled liquor from them near Podalapalle cross roads in Rayachoti mandal on Wednesday. The arrested were Sunkara Easwaramma, Kathi Veeranagamma, Sunkara Nagamma and Palagiri Bibi Fathima, according to excise SI Gnanaprakasam. — Staff Reporter

Red sanders seized

KADAPA: The police intercepted a lorry and seized 300 red sander logs valued at Rs. 10 lakhs near Ramapuram mandal headquarters on Wednesday. On a tip-off, they stopped the lorry carrying the red sander logs covered by coconut fibre. Woman ends life

KURNOOL: A woman, who attempted suicide by consuming poison, died in hospital here on Wednesday. Gangamma (26) of Kallur took the extreme step after her father Anjaneyulu consumed poison unable to put up with the hardship of the woman at her in-law's place. TIRUPATI: A young couple, suspected to be lovers on the run, was found dead in a private lodge near the APSRTC central bus station here on Wednesday.

Madanapalle : Civic works in Madanapalle municipality have been badly hit with workers continuing their strike since May 14.
