Speeding car knocks down woman

HYDERABAD: A speeding Maruti rammed into a fruit vendor K. Chittemma, 38, sitting on the roadside at Shamirpet, killing her on the spot during daytime on Wednesday.

Family members of the victim alleged that the person driving the car, M. Pentaiah, 45, a real estate businessman, was in a drunken condition.

The Shamirpet police, however, said Pentaiah was sent to hospital for examination but he did not test positive for drunken driving. Pentaiah was allegedly going at a high speed from Shamirpet to the city when he knocked down the woman who was selling mangoes along the main road.
