Bangalore: The Department of Pre-University Education is likely to announce the results of the pre-university examination held in March/April on Friday. Basavaraj S. Horatti, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, told presspersons here on Wednesday that 4.94 lakh students had appeared for the second pre-university examination. Of the 4.94 lakh students, 2.18 lakh were girls and 2.76 lakh were boys.
Admissions
Meanwhile, a press release from the Department of Pre-University Education has brushed aside reports that over one lakh students who had passed SSLC/10th standard would not get admission because of a shortage of seats in pre-university colleges. The release said the department had directed all the 3,010 colleges coming under it to stick to the timetable set by the Government for admission to the first year pre-university course (PUC). The release said that this academic year, the Government had sanctioned the establishment of 100 government PU colleges. As many as 300 applications to set up private and unaided PU colleges were being considered. The number of available seats was now more than 50,000. The number of seats in excess would be 11,838, the release added. This being the case, the department, in the press release, has urged parents and students not to be anxious over first PUC admissions.
