THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to bring a unified, comprehensive legislation governing boats and other crafts playing the inland waterways of the State. Briefing presspersons on the Cabinet decisions, Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said the objective was to replace outdated legislation and bring timely regulation of water transport. The Chief Minister announced that shopping festivals would be organised in all the 14 districts with a view to attracting tourists and marketing various products of Kerala. A. J. Rajan, who was Idukki Collector, would be posted as Additional Secretary in the Planning Department. IPS Officer Ananthakrishnan would be appointed as Additional Transport Commissioner. IAS Officer Shanthiamma would be posted as Secretary of Land Board. Johnson K. George would be posted as Secretary of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
