Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy appealed to the leadership of Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) not to take to the path of agitation over the issue of categorising Scheduled Caste reservations as the Centre had already constituted a committee to study it. Assuring the MRPS leaders, who met him on Thursday evening, that there would be `some result', Dr. Reddy said the committee had already been asked to submit its report in four weeks. The Government did not want another academic year to go waste and would come out with a solution soon. He made this appeal in view of the announcement by MRPS president Manda Krisha Madiga to begin an indefinite strike from Thursday to press for categorisation of the SCs. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr. Reddy said the Government was sensitive to the demands of the Dalits. He would take up the issue with the Ministry concerned in New Delhi during his two-day visit tomorrow, he said. Meanwhile, the Mala Mahanadu, led by president J. Prabhakar Rao has decided to stage dharnas at the Collectorates all over the State. Mr. Rao said in a statement that the activists would lay siege to the residence of the Chief Minister at 9.30 a.m. The protest would be led by G. Chennayya, City unit president of Mala Mahanadu. Meanwhile, Karem Sivaji, president of another Mala Mahanadu group, in a statement on Wednesday warned of launching a Statewide agitation if the Government gave its nod for categorisation.
