Software engineer's flat looted in city

BANGALORE: Burglars struck at a software engineer's flat on Bannerghatta Road on Tuesday and looted gold ornaments and other valuables estimated at Rs. 2 lakh.

The police said the incident took place at Mallikarjuna Kundaragi's flat in Vimala Classic apartments in Bhagawathi Layout. The thieves had entered the flat by breaking the rear door when Mallikarjuna and his wife, both software engineers, were at work.

The Hulimavu police have registered a case.

Suicides

Two persons committed suicide by jumping in front of moving trains in separate incidents on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday.

The police said Nandish (25), a cook at Wonderla amusement park, was killed on the tracks between Hejjala and Bidadi in Bangalore Rural district.

The city railway police, who have registered a case, said Nandish was dejected in life.

In the other incident, a woman aged 35, was run over by the Bangalore-Arasikere Passenger between Ammasandra and Nittur.

The Yeshwanthapur railway police have registered a case.

Killed in mishap

Rudraiah (50), a pedestrian, was killed in a hit-and-run case near Siddalingaiah junction on Kasturba Road around 6.30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cubbon Park police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the vehicle.

Arrested

The RMC Yard police have arrested six people on charges of burglary and robbery and recovered from them gold ornaments estimated at Rs. 2 lakh. The police said the accused were involved in five cases of chain snatching and two burglaries in Basaveshwaranagar, Vijayanagar, Jnana Bharathi and RMC Yard police station limits. They were arrested while they were planning to commit dacoity near Yeshwanthapur industrial area.

The arrested were identified as Anil (20), Hanumantha (30), Rama (19), Manikanta (19) and Chikkaswamy (19).

Seized

The Central Crime Branch staff on Tuesday arrested three persons and seized from them pirated VCDs and DVDs, estimated at Rs. 3.45 lakh.

The accused were selling the pirated and pornographic discs at shops in Jeevanbimanagar police station limits, the police said. The police gave their names as Abdul Razack (22), Ashok (29), and Vishwanath (23), all residents of HAL.

Call centre staff hurt

Ten employees of a call centre were injured when the company cab rammed a tree on Raj Bhavan Road in the early hours of Wednesday. The police said the accident occurred around 4.15 a.m. when the employees of Indicom Global were returning home from work. The driver lost control over the van and hit a tree near the rear gate of Raj Bhavan while driving towards Basaveshwara Circle.

Three employees, who suffered fracture, had been admitted in M.S. Ramaiah Hospital. The Cubbon Park traffic police have registered.
