Law school reintroduces PG course

THE NATIONAL Law School of India University (NLSIU) has revived its two-year postgraduate programme in law with 100 per cent placement of its LL.M. students for 2005-07. The course offering specialisation in Business Laws and Human Rights Law is divided into four semesters with four compulsory and eight elective papers, followed by a final dissertation. The batch that has graduated has carved a niche for itself in the legal sector.

According to a press release, various firms that recruited students from NLSIU include Kotak Mahindra Bank, Gagrat and Co., IDBI Capital Services, Hriday-Shann Bloomberg Initiative, Consumer Unity and Trust Society, Securities and Exchange Board of India, and Larson and Toubro. The LL.M. course at the NLSIU has in the short period of its existence taken the initiative to put its specialisation to the test of the market demands and has declared its arrival into the legal market.

Graduation Day

The CMR Institute of Technology recently held its graduation day. Vikram Rao, Director of Aditya Birla Management Corporation Ltd., who was the chief guest, called upon the students to have pride in India, which was poised to become one of the largest economies of the world. He urged the graduating students to pursue a career, which they were passionate about. Bindu Hari, Director of The International School, Bangalore, urged the students to become entrepreneurs, thereby creating more jobs. She said that in today's world, excellent communication skills and clear vision play a vital role in the professional growth of an engineer.

Convocation

The Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship held its 11th convocation for its Business Management students. As many as 121 students of the two-year full-time course and 27 of the three-year part-time course were awarded diplomas by Sarosh H. Ghandy, chairman, XIME. J. Phillip, founder and president, XIME Society, highlighted the differentiation in the product of XIME. He spoke about the notable achievements of XIME, which included a five-year accreditation from All India Council of Technical Education. M.M. Jacob, former Governor of Meghalaya, who was the chief guest, exhorted the graduating students to be sensitive to those at the bottom of the pyramid and try to make a difference to their condition.

Certificate course

Davar's College recently announced a placement-driven certificate course in retail.

The Bangalore branch of the college has decided to have the course to fulfil the growing need for trained professionals in the retail field. The three-month certificate course will begin from June 1.

The syllabus includes visual merchandising, customer service skills, cashiering service skills, selling skills, store operations management, retail operations, and time management skills.

The retail industry in Bangalore is growing at a fast pace and people in the industry have to be trained to fulfil the demand.
