BANGALORE: McAfee Inc, an anti-virus and data protection solutions provider, is expanding its presence in India and looking at growing its consumer business, which now accounts for almost 30 per cent of total sales. Roger King, Executive Vice-President, Worldwide Sales, McAfee, told reporters here recently that India accounted for 20 per cent of its business in Asia Pacific. With the recent hirings, its India operations would grow to 800 staff before the end of this year. The company's global business in financial year 2006 was close to $1.2 billion. The company had introduced SiteAdvisor and Intrushield to the Indian market "Some of our new products have come through recent acquisitions of smaller firms specialising in focused solutions and some are directly targeted at the consumer segment of Internet users," Mr. King said. The McAfee SiteAdvisor that can now be freely downloaded already has 50 million users, who want to avoid unwanted spam and e-mail while browsing. Another new product, for enterprises, is for data loss/theft prevention. Intrushield, a high-speed network monitoring solution, helps track communications within a company. Kartik Shahani, Regional Director, McAfee India, said, "The business process outsourcing sector is now more concerned than before about data theft and risk management solutions and almost 80 per cent of them in India use one or more of our products. Other customers are in the banking and financial services and telecom segments. With Internet usage increasing steadily, we anticipate more demand for our consumer products too".
